Revenu Québec's Tax Data Download service is an important tool that has been made available to DT Max users since February 2012. This tool has since revolutionized the way tax returns are prepared in Quebec.

This Revenu Québec service is available in early March.

What you will need to use this service:

  • You may use this service if you have a valid authorization or power of attorney (MR-69) at Revenu Québec for the client's file. This is the preferred method of authentication.

  • If you do not have an MR-69 form for your client, they must provide you with their download code.

  • The Download Code consists of 8 numeric characters. This is what you will use to access the data. Your client can obtain one online using the page Get your Download Code OR by contacting Revenu Québec's client services department at 1-800-267-6299.

  • The download code is only valid for the current year.

What you need to know:

  • The following RL slips (Relevés) should be included in the download, if applicable to your client: RL-1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 16, 19, 22, 24 (memo only), 25, 26, 27 (memo only), 29 and 32. The T4A (OAS), T4E and RC62 benefit slips are also included, as well as Quebec installment amounts and interest paid by Revenu Québec.

    • Please note that in the download, the information with regards to the T4A(OAS), the T4E and the RC62 represents the information that is held by Revenu Quebec. This is because the Canada Revenu Agency (CRA) is not involved in any manner whatsoever with the tax data download service. Therefore, this implies that you should always corroborate such downloaded information with the information received by your client from the federal since there may be discrepancies between the information held by Revenu Québec and the information held by the CRA.

  • You must have selected Québec as the province of residence on December 31 on the Data Entry screen in order for the T-Slips from RQ option to appear in the right-hand side display.

  • You may download your client's tax information as many times as needed, until the moment you are ready to file his or her tax return.

  • The data download involves an important principle. In certain cases, an amount may have multiple treatments possible on the income tax return for Quebec and/or on the federal return. In such a case, the appropriate treatment of the amount can often only be established once all the information is available (like for example following the examination of the federal slip). Therefore, when you download tax data, it is essential that you verify the data entry, because in cases where multiple treatments are possible for an amount (on the income tax return for Quebec and/or on the federal return), DT Max has associated the amount with a plausible treatment considering the information available. For this reason, you must validate such assumptions when such assumptions were made. For example, when your client receives an RL-1 slip (Relevé 1) with an amount reported in box O associated to code RB, DT Max cannot establish the appropriate treatment for federal purposes. Indeed, for federal purposes, multiple treatments are possible for scholarships/fellowships/bursaries based on the type of scholarships/fellowships/bursaries involved (i.e. whether it is an elementary and secondary school scholarship, a post-secondary school scholarship or a post-doctoral fellowship). Considering that we do not know the type of scholarships/fellowships/bursaries involved simply by examining the RL-1 slip, DT Max has associated by default the amount with post-secondary education. This assumption may be incorrect. It should be verified and validated based on the information from your client. Thus, if according to the information from your client, the scholarship/bursary/fellowship is NOT pertaining to post-secondary education, you must modify the data entry accordingly.

We recommend:

  • We strongly recommend that you disable the sorting feature in your DT Max preferences. To do so, please select User Defaults from your Preferences menu. Under the Miscellaneous tab, untick the box for Enable sorting. This will allow you to maintain the correspondence between the copied data (that is on the left-hand side of the screen) and the downloaded data (that is on the right-hand side of the screen). Otherwise, DT Max might automatically reorganize the order of the data by enabling the sorting feature.
